Trust and safety team at Google India, led by Sunita Mohanty, Director, is working with various partners and communities towards developing greater tech awareness among mothers.
The team has conducted workshops in Hyderabad and Ranchi as part of the first edition of the Cyber moms program in partnership with Cyber Peace Foundation and National Commission for Women in late 2017. This was aimed to provide a platform to mothers, to learn practical tips to keep their children safe online.
COMMUNICATION IS KEY
Encourage your children to talk about their web experiences with you. Be vocal about your family’s rules and expectations ontechnology, so that children can use the internet independently.
SAFER EXPERIENCES :
Mothers can arm themselves with features like the SafeSearch filter and YouTube Restricted Mode to prevent malicious content reach their children.
EXPLORE THE DIGITAL WORLD TOGETHER
Just like how you are watchful of your kid on the playground, keep an eye on the digital activities by surfing along.
SECURE YOUR SECRETS
Cyber Moms need to teach their children that personal privacy and security are just as important online as they are offline and teach them importance of secure passwords.
KINDNESS GOES A LONG WAY
It is important for Cyber Moms to teach their kids about responsible and appropriate communication and internet kindness. “If it isn’t right to say, it isn’t right to post.” Having a candid conversation with your kids about not hurting anyone’s feelings online will help them develop a positive personality on the web.
